News Project Report 2

Last week, our group member decided to change our survey question and start over our survey. To begin with, the social economical situations in Taiwan are getting worse. Students may be afraid of entering the society to get a job. As a result, they keep studying and hide themselves in the educational system. But during their time spending at schools, there is a possibility that they do not learn what they really are interested in. They study for others’ expectation and have difficulties in finding the reason why they want to get a diploma. Mr. Song was the one who studied for a doctor degree but chose to sell fried chicken. Due to this controversial news, we would like to know NCU students’ opinion as well as confidence in their diploma and whether they will put away what they learn at college and start their own business as Mr.Song or not. Questions of our survey are as below:
1.     Which grade are you studying in NCU now?
2.     What made you want to study hard and enter NCU?
3.     Are you confident of your diploma?
4.     Could you please tell us the reason why you are confident of it or not confident of it?
5.     After graduating, which decision below will you prefer to make?
a.      Give up or combine what you learn and start your own business
b.     I know it is difficult to get a job so I want to continue studying for graduate school.
c.      It is said that salary in foreign countries is much higher than in Taiwan, so I  will go working abroad.
d.     Other choices-
6.     If I could make decision once again, I would…
a.      Because we only get 22k after graduating from college, I would not enter college and start earning money after graduating from high school.
b.     Keep studying
c.      I already know my goal and I need to fulfill it by studying.
d.     I want to see what college life really is so I would go to college but find a full-time job as soon as I graduate.

e.      Other choices-

News Project! report 1

Few months ago, news in Taiwan revealed that a doctor gave up his job as a teaching assistant and decided to sell fried chicken. Terry Gou, president of Foxconn, criticized that it was such a waste of educational resources.
Nowadays, more and more people choose to take a job which is totally not relevant to what they learn at schools. And even students in colleges now are worried about whether they can find a good job with their diploma after graduating. Our group was curious about this phenomenon and would like to conduct an online survey on it. In order to make our survey easier to be analyzed, we limited the conductors to the students studying at NCU and therefore entitled the survey topic as ‘‘Whether Students in NCU Is Confident Of Their Diploma Or Not’’.
Questions are as below.
1.     Which department do you belong to?
2.     Which grade do you study in?
3.     Are you confident of your diploma in NCU?
4.     (for those who answer ‘‘yes’’) Do you still choose to take other courses which is in different fields to improve yourself?
5.     (for those who answer ‘‘no’’) Do you or did you take other courses which is in different fields to improve yourself?
6.     Please choose the reason about whether you are confident of your diploma or not.
(a)   I think what I learn now still stands at an advantageous position in the society.
(b)  I think what I learn now is not useful.
(c)   Other reasons

Because the survey question was just finished on June 2nd , I will not give the survey result in this report. I will turn it in next week.

An Uncompromising Cinema House at NCU (2.4)

Nowadays, people seldom go to theaters unless they want to see 3D movies for greater visual and audio effects. But will anyone go there for art movies? Their survival is more difficult than commercial movies let alone the self-supporting cinemas showing mostly art movies.
107 cinema house in National Central University is just this kind of theater. Has 107 ever thought of changing its position as an art cinema house? ‘‘No!’’ the manager of 107, Su Yee Hsiao, firmly answered.
Figure 1. Volunteers of 107 and  the manager is at the right side of this picture.

‘‘Sometimes I may refer to audience favor when choosing movies, but I really want to show art movies shot by great directors such as Koreeda Hirokazu,’’ Hsiao added, ‘‘Even though these movies are not blockbusters, they are definitely worth watching!’’
107 craves to be an cinema house not just in NCU. ‘‘In May 25th to 26th , 107 will hold a great Sundance Film Festival which is famous in American independent films. Because several renowned directors and mass media will attend the activity, it will be an excellent chance to let more people in Taoyuan recognize 107,’’ the manager remarked.
107 is an uncompromising cinema house which continuously provides a place for art movies addicts; meanwhile, endeavors to bring more people unfamiliar with art movies inside. Let’s see how 107 touches everyone by its great art movies!

Response to Peer Feedback (news 2)

1.‘‘107 is an uncompromising cinema continuously providing a place for art movies addicts; meanwhile, endeavoring to bring more people unfamiliar with art movies inside.’’
One of our group member suggested that using attract or draw would be better.
Actually, I prefer to use bring given that I want to emphasize the action of people who are unfamiliar with art movies entering 107 cinema from his or her previous position, a distinction between mainstream and art movies.

2.‘‘107 is an uncompromising cinema continuously providing a place for art movies addicts; meanwhile, endeavoring to bring more people unfamiliar with art movies inside.’’
The grammar of this sentence is not correct. It needs comma or to add ‘‘which’’.
→ I agree with this advice. I will add ‘‘which’’.

3.In the first paragraph, I don’t have to tell readers about people watching movies online nowadays.
I can just say art movie theaters are more difficult than commercial ones for running.
I agree and I should try my best to make my news conciser. Because my point is introducing 107 art cinema so I don’t need to talk about people watching movies online nowadays.

Swallow Soup or Sodium? (1.4)

People like food at the convenience store for expediency such as Japanese oden. Sometimes people add soup inside. In a poll conducted online, the result showed that 94 out of 98 responders have eaten oden in convenience stores. 37 of 94 would add half bowl of soup and 36 add over eighty percent full.
Figure 1. the 4th Q&A  of the online poll.

According to The John Tung Foundation, the average bowl of oden soup — 80 percent full —contains between 600mg and 1,400mg of salt. The significant variance arises from clerks adjusting soup flavor following individual palette, continuously heating but not adding water periodically.
After showing those polled the sodium variance of oden soup and possible disease due to lavish sodium intake such as edema, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, kidney and coronary heart disease, 73 responders still chose to continue purchasing oden and add reasonable soup.
Figure 2. the 5th Q&A of the online poll.

Concerning the sodium variance of oden soup, consumers seem to react rationally according to the survey. If people can contemplate the food problems and consume reasonably, they might avoid above-mentioned diseases. So enjoy your oden and enjoy your health meanwhile!

Is 107 cinema in NCU a completely art cinema? (2.1)

From 2003 to 2013, now 107 cinema is already 10 years old. I would like to probe into the position of 107 cinema. In the next ten years, will it insist on its artistic position or begin to have some changes?

1. Collect data about audience numbers of 107 cinema during the past two semesters and analyze the data.
2.Interview the manager of 107 cinema and ask the position issue.

1. Shorten the news title and pay attention to redundant words.
à I agree with the advice. My original title is ‘‘swallow soup or swallow sodium’’, and the second swallow is actually redundant.
And I endeavored to delete those redundant words to make my news more clear to be read.

2. The first paragraph is too sudden for the whole news.
à I cannot agree with this advise more. I should talk about my theme first instead of giving out a vague and terrifying sentence about diseases due to lavish sodium intake to scare readers even when they have no ideas about what I really want to talk about.
Consequently, I moved this sentence after I stated the fact about oden in convenience store.

3.   Revise the original conclusion!

à I agree with the advice. < The original one>‘‘ It is everyone’s duty to take care of individual health and also other’s when working in service industry.”
The original one talks about the duty to care about consumers health when working in service industry. But it totally went too far from my main point, that is, think carefully before eating oden. Consequently, I must come up with a new conclusion to be closer to my main point.

Swallow Soup or Swallow Sodium?

Excessive sodium intake can cause edema, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, kidney and coronary heart disease.

People like food at convenience store for expediency. Easy to taste in a stick, Japanese oden is within choices. Sometimes people also add oden soup. In an online poll which 98 people conducted, 94 responders have eaten oden of convenience stores. 37 of 94 would add half bowl of soup and 36 add over eighty percent full.

However, people hardly know high sodium level hides just in the soup. Actually, the average bowl of soup — 80 percent full —contains between 600mg and 1,400mg of salt. The significant variance arises from clerks adjusting soup flavor following individual palette, continuously heating but not adding water periodically. After showing those polled the sodium variance of oden soup and possible disease as lavish sodium intake, 73 responders still chose to continue purchasing oden and add reasonable soup.

‘‘There is a device for testing the salinity of the oden soup and the official procedures to dilute soup are a pack of condensed soup powder with 1500cc water and pressing the heating button whenever adding water inside,’’ the clerks working at convenience stores were interviewed and mentioned. As for the timing to add water depends on clerks free or not and the amount of water inside the soup.

Concerning the sodium variance of oden soup, consumers seem to react rationally according to the survey. It is everyone’s duty to take care of individual health and also other’s when working in service
